General terms and conditions for expeditions

ACTIVITY FRAMEWORK

Magnetic Compass is a tourist entertainment entity that develops expeditions and discovery experiences in natural environments, with a special focus on remote territories, off-road trails, and natural, cultural, and scenic heritage.

Expeditions do not fall under transport services or conventional urban/luxury tourism experiences. They are adventure and exploration experiences where the route, nature, and terrain conditions are an integral part of the experience.

NATURE OF THE EXPERIENCE

Expeditions take place in natural and rural environments and may include dirt tracks, dusty areas, wind, temperature variations, uneven terrain, and other natural conditions inherent to this type of activity.

By participating, the client acknowledges that this is an adventure experience and not a premium comfort service. Personal preparation, adaptation to environmental conditions, and a conscious, responsible attitude are essential for the smooth running of the expedition.

PARTICIPATION AND AGES

Expeditions are generally recommended for participants aged 12 and over.

People of any age, including children and infants, may participate as long as they are accompanied by their parents or legal guardians. Assessing the suitability of the expedition to the child’s needs is the sole responsibility of the parents or legal guardians.

All mandatory safety equipment for children, including car seats or restraint systems appropriate for age and weight, is the full responsibility of the parents or legal guardians and must strictly comply with current legislation.

SAFETY AND CONDUCT

Participants commit to following all instructions given by the guide or driver, as well as respecting safety regulations, the group, and the surrounding environment.

Participation is not permitted for individuals who are intoxicated or have their capacity clearly compromised by excessive alcohol consumption. Responsible consumption is accepted, provided it does not jeopardize the safety of the individual, the group, or the activity.

Any type of disrespectful or dangerous behavior toward other participants, guides, vehicles, or the natural and cultural environment visited is strictly prohibited.

PARTNERS, ACCOMMODATION, AND MEALS

Magnetic Compass works with a network of local partners, including accommodation units, restaurants, and regional producers.

Meals, overnight stays, and associated experiences may vary depending on the availability of partners at the time of the expedition. Partners with different characteristics may be used—ranging from traditional to more contemporary solutions—always ensuring quality, authenticity, and alignment with the spirit of the experience.

These variations do not constitute an essential change to the expedition, nor do they grant the right to compensation or reimbursement.

PROGRAM CHANGES AND MINIMUM QUORUM

The running of each expedition is subject to a minimum of 3 participants. Should this number not be reached, Magnetic Compass reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the activity, informing the client in due time.

The itinerary may undergo occasional adjustments due to weather conditions, access, safety, operational decisions, or other external factors. Magnetic Compass reserves the right to adapt the route whenever necessary to ensure the safety and quality of the experience.

LIABILITY

By making a reservation, the client acknowledges that the activity takes place in a natural environment and accepts the risks inherent to this type of experience, committing to participate in a conscious, responsible, and informed manner.

Magnetic Compass is not responsible for personal items lost, damaged, or forgotten during the expedition.

INSURANCE AND LICENSING

The activity is covered by the mandatory insurance required by law for tourist entertainment, and is duly registered and licensed by the competent authorities.

Magnetic Compass is registered in the RNAAT – National Register of Tourist Entertainment Agents, No. 645/2025, ensuring compliance with the legal standards applicable to tour operators in Portugal.

ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

Booking and participating in an expedition implies full acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.

NOTE ON THE SPIRIT OF THE EXPEDITION

Magnetic Compass expeditions are experiences of adventure, discovery, and connection to the territory. They are not urban tours or conventional luxury experiences.

Participants should come prepared for an expedition environment, where contact with nature, dust, trails, and the pace of the territory are part of the experience. Comfortable clothing, suitable footwear, and a spirit of adventure are fundamental.

Those who participate must do so with full awareness of the type of experience proposed, respecting the group, the guide, and the surrounding natural environment.
